Was Logan Halstead Missing Before His Tragic Death?
Logan Michael Halstead, 19, was identified as the man who was not reported missing. The man’s mother and father are now charged with causing bodily harm to a corpse.
The sheriff’s office did not provide attorney information for the parents, identified as 43-year-old Karen Tysinger Halstead and 44-year-old Michael Shane Halstead, in a news release.
The incident began on October 29, when deputies arrived at a home in Headland, near Dothan and about 110 miles southeast of Montgomery.
In a phone conversation, Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship told McClatchy News that the Halstead family had rented the house before it was sold to new owners.
Deputies do not know when Logan Halstead died, but he might have died “as early as June.”
The parents were discovered near Jack, Alabama, some 50 miles from their previous residence.
According to officials, they were arrested, jailed, and released on $175,000 bail.
Logan Halstead disability and autopsy
According to the sources, Logan Halstead was born with spina bifida, a congenital ailment that can cause a variety of physical and neurological issues.
Logan’s parents became his primary carers, typical for youngsters with extensive medical requirements.
Logan Halstead’s parents are now facing murder charges pending the results of the autopsy.
The autopsy, a medical study of the body, is expected to reveal critical insights into the cause of Logan’s death and any potential indicators of foul play.
It is a critical stage in assessing whether criminal charges should be filed. The body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an extensive examination.
Where are Logan Halstead parents?
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office detained Logan’s parents, Karen Tysinger Halstead and Michael Shane Halstead, on Sunday in Jack, Alabama.
After that, they were taken to the Henry County Jail, where they were accused of one count of abusing a corpse. Judge James Peterson set their bond at $175,000 apiece the next day.
According to the sheriff’s office, they received a call at 11:37 on Sunday.
They discovered the couple’s son Logan Michael Halstead’s decomposing body outside of their previous home at 296 Bradford Drive in a freezer.
The body was covered with cardboard, blankets, shower curtains, and plastic bags.
The twin boys, aged 13, who were the couple’s other children, were given up to the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
Michael allegedly attempted to hide his son’s death from his wife and their other children, according to stories in the local media.
Once Logan was placed in the freezer, he transferred his family into a hotel room.
On October 11, he also called the Headland Police Department and admitted to hiding his son’s body. However, when the authorities searched the property, they could not locate it.
